Here is my completed book cover which and been printed and bound.
My book cover is now complete with QR code attached to my website.
I know have my final and edited images and its time to put them all together.
I have opened my book cover template in photoshop and now need to create layers to add the image and a qr code.
I now added my QR code
All the layers together
Now all the images are added its time to add the writing.
The first image I am going to use is the one below and this will be my front cover image.
I don’t think the image needs much editing apart from the fact the modules nails are a little tatty.
I am going to edit the nails in photoshop.
The image above is just the JPEG file so I going to open the RAW file and edit that one.
Always zoom your image in to 100% before you start to edit it.
I have then selected the magic wand tool and carefully selected the models finger nails that need to be edited.
As you can see all the nails have the ”marching ants” highlighted.
I now need to create another layer.
An option box will open so you can name your layer, I am just leaving it as Layer1
You now have 2 Layers, your background layer and your new Layer – Layer 1
I am going to just highlight the new Layer by clicking the eye icon on the background layer, this is no longer visible while I edit the finger nails.
It is difficult to see but here is what your highlighted finger nails layer should look like.
I am now going to colour the finger nail, I am going for a soft red colour.
Text Box Open
Choose your colour
Once you have chosen your colour
Your layer should then look like this.
Note this image is zoomed in.
I now need to refine the edges.
< Refine Edge
A options box will then open with the option to define you edge smooth/feather etc..
Now I have edited the finger finger nails I make both layers visible and flatten the image.
< Flatten image
Here is my new image with almost perfect finger nails.
The second Image I am going to use is for the spine of the book and will just be a thumbnail size.
All I have done with this image is to adjust the exposure and shadows.
And my third image will be used on the back cover of the book.
I wanted to try make the mirror look like it was cracked and broken.
The best affect I was able to manage was a tool ”stained glass’ It dose not really work but thought I would share it on here.
NOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER!
Well I had my Photo shoot yesterday and did not get off to a very good start.
The morning of the shoot my model called me up sick! Panic!
I quickly arranged a stand and all was good.
However when I started my shoot there was something just not right?
The look I had in mind for the model was a mature look as a witch,
my new model was younger and the look just didn’t feel right
TIME TO CHANGE TACTICS!
I had bought with me a whole bag of tricks and props and decided to go with a different look for the model.
The model was far to young and pretty to pose as a witch.
As you can see the model is more suited to the second look.
These are some of my final images that I will use for my book cover.
I still need to final edit these images …. Just a sneak preview
After lots of research, more research and debate about what will work and what won’t and swapping and changing my mind (a woman’s prerogative) about how i would like my book cover to look.
It is time for me to get down to the nitty gritty.
The studio is booked for friday 11th april along with a model and makeup artist, all props sourced and purchased.
The final look for my Fairytale book as been inspired by the two following images.
Hope to create a stunning boo cover combining the two looks with my own Twist.
Fingers crossed to a successful shoot!
